It was the question we finally asked ourselves. After years of endless meetings in corporate offices and executing ideas from executives we didn’t always agree with, it started with a question. Could we actually do this? For 16 years we thought about what we would do instead…if it were our decision. There is only so long you can dream before you have to execute. I had worked in web merchandising, inventory planning, and ecommerce my whole career. Sarah had spent her career in merchandising, product development, partnerships, and brand strategy. Our skill sets were complementary. We had the product idea for women’s golf clothing for almost 2 decades. Why not us? Why not now? Our most recent jobs launching a new ecommerce site and living through a start-up were the final experiences we needed to feel confident. We began to envision a polo that we could wear for golf, but also out to lunch, or chasing our kids at the playground. It had to be comfortable, but flattering. Classic and appropriate but with an edge. Inspired by men’s polos, we combined our favorite parts of multiple polos to create our Short Sleeve Polo. When we saw women wearing their husbands golf shirts on 2 separate occasions during the Summer of 2019, we knew we had our key item. From there we imagined a dress version – because everyone needs a functional, flattering coverup for the pool or beach. Thanks for being here to help us make our dream come true!
Read MoreThe seed for the idea of Renwick was planted in 2002, when Sarah and I would joke about how terrible we looked in our golf outfits. College-aged, we would travel to Manchester, Vermont to play at our parent’s club where we were required to wear knee-length skirts. We didn’t mind being conservative, but the options were terrible. Ill-fitting was an understatement. We’d cave and just wear long pants and avoid the awkward conversations with the Starter on skirt length altogether. Our joking aside, dressing for golf was a downer. It robbed the event of a certain amount of joy. In contrast, watching our father and brother wear golf clothes all Summer – because that’s how handsome and functional they were – struck us as so unfair. Why did we feel like an afterthought in the world of golf? Why did this exclusion, and lack of understanding of our needs, feel so fundamentally offensive? We discussed these things late into the night at family dinners and began to imagine how we could fix the issue. Here we are, 18 years later. Showing some love to women’s golf clothing, and creating pieces cool enough to exist outside the world of golf. Everyone deserves to look stylish and feel happy while doing things they love.
Read MoreOur mother is a huge part of the inspiration behind this brand. If she’s reading this (and she probably doesn’t have time), she would be cringing with embarrassment. That’s just how she is – humble and kind. Like the Tim McGraw song. Mom is an awesome golfer, with plenty of trophies and plates to show for it. So, Sarah and I grew up with golf as a family sport. Not a sport reserved for men. Though our father and brother are obsessed as well. When I started dating my husband Jack, I brought him home to Bedford to play golf. My parents joined us, and my mom beat Jack. He could not believe it. Mom is more than a great athlete though. She taught us to always work hard and put others first. Her faith is important to her, as well as family traditions. She instilled in us an awareness of what is right, and the hard work it takes to do the right thing. Mom is also beautiful in a natural way. She doesn’t own makeup or flashy jewelry. For most of our lives, she wore gold ram hoop earrings as her one adornment. The same ones her mother wore. The rams symbolize her quiet, natural strength. The ram has been a long-held symbol of determination, action, initiative, and leadership. When exploring options for the Renwick logo, the double rams made perfect sense.
